There are several excellent fisheries at CMC. Fourteen fishing ponds are scattered throughout the property and several Owners will have their own private ponds. The 20-acre High Park Lake is a self-sustaining fishery that can be fished either from its banks or from one of CMC’s canoes, row boats, or kayaks. The lake and ponds host large cutthroat, cutbow, rainbow, brook and brown trout. A small fishing cabin on the southeast shore of the High Park Lake makes it possible to purchase flies and tackle on an honor basis.
Off property, fishing on the Gunnison River in the nearby Black Canyon is among the best in the West. Many fly fisherman from throughout the United States travel to the Black Canyon each summer, particularly for the legendary stone fly hatch. The Cimarron River itself does not pass through CMC. However, an arrangement with a nearby landowner allows CMC Owners to fish a section of the river less than a half mile from CMC’s entry gate.
CMC’s Mountain Hosts are also great fishing guides, having guided professionally for years in Alaska, Mongolia, Latin America, and South America.
